Zoom security to a very high level

27 Jul 2020 - John Welzen

It's been 90 days since Zoom started all its improvements. The 90 day plan has been completed. All available Zoom resources were put on this plan. Everything had to give way to making Zoom even more secure. Never again such a period of negative shouting and a few safety improvements. Never again any doubts about the so often praised mantra of "happy customer" and "look where we are now" The ZOOM quality is well known, but the safety has been taken to a super high level. Here are a few key points to back up this safety:

  • The Zoom 5.0 version has the AES 256-bit GCM encryption. One of the highest standards in the field of encryption of video meetings.

  • A new security icon for the host. Not to be missed in the control bar at the bottom. Host and co-host can control all relevant security functions at once, including closing the meeting (you can't get in anymore because the door is locked) or activating the waiting room (you can't get in unless the host or co-host lets you in).

  • The ability to report abuse attempts immediately to the specially established Zoom trust and security team.

  • Passwords, waiting rooms and sharing your screen only for the host and not for the participants are examples that are now enabled by default. Security and flexibility.

  • Customized data routing. This means that for paid accounts, you can choose your own data center at owner or admin level. Suppose Europe and not the USA and or China.

Specialists in the various fields of security and encryption are employed by Zoom. As a result, not only now but with every "next release", security will be paramount. All new developments take place within a security "GO" of the relevant departments and specialists. These and more will follow in the near future. Zoom is ready for a secure and quality future!

Zoom has really delivered a masterpiece by shaking up the entire program in 90 days and building in even more security than was actually there. I repeat: many security features were already in the software but in places that fast users overlooked. The subsequent misery is well known.

Time for positivism. Time to give Zoom kudos. Time to turn the "old" Zoom negativism into positivism. Time to point out to the ignorant Directors and decision makers that Zoom is the most secure video communication software program you can choose. Time to write about this. Time to appreciate Eric Yuan for his courage and unbridled commitment to making Zoom an even safer program in 90 days.

The 90 Day Safety Plan and its implementation deserves great credit. Spread the word, spread the word.
